Talking "Recession", Evaluating the Hard Evidence
This month, I met with my financial advisor to discuss the state of the economy. I wanted to get a trusted perspective on where our economic future is heading, and as you know, real estate is a big piece of America’s financial puzzle. After talking for two hours, we agreed that while the media’s interest is to build fear and hype, the most recent job and real estate reports are a clear indicator that a recession is not a looming prospect anytime soon. While the market is slowing and we’re no longer experiencing crazy bidding wars, interest rates are still historically low and our current pace is actually moving us closer to a more stable, healthy market. In the last 12 months, average sales price has risen by 5.5% from $428,700 to $452,400 in the Portland metro area. December reports showed an average of 64 days on market before an accepted offer - with anything less than 120 days indicating a healthy seller’s market. Learning to Consume Information Thoughtfully
First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you! I hope the next 12 months are filled with blessings, tons of laughter, amazing memories, good health, and exciting new opportunities. As I’ve embarked on the first few weeks of this new year, I’ve realized how much time and energy I was spending consuming bad news. I would spend my evenings before bed reading articles that all seemed to focus on negative things people were doing in the world and to the people around them. Suddenly, I began to feel my mindset shifting into a very negative space - well, no wonder! While there is a lot of evil in this world, there is also so much GOOD and so many wonderful people out there doing amazing things. That's why I’m committing to deleting my news apps, winding down away from my phone, and spending the 30-60 minutes before bed engaging in positive, health-building activities like reading, journaling, meditating, or simply relaxing with loved ones. Remember, it takes 66 days to form a new habit, and I hope you’ll join me in making the small changes that can positively impact your life and the presence you share with others.
