The Highlights and Details of Bill 608

If you own an investment property or plan on investing in the future, you may have heard about the recent Senate Bill 608. Oregon governor Kate Brown has signed the nation's first rent control bill and many people have been apprehensive about what this means for investors. Some standout items on the bill include: 1) Landlords can increase rent by no more than 7% + consumer price index in any twelve month period. 2) Landlords are only allowed to terminate tenancy without cause in the first twelve months of occupancy, and must issue a 30 day notice. 3) After twelve months of occupancy, a landlord can only evict a tenant for an existing tenant-based cause or one of four new landlord-based causes. 4) If a tenant is evicted due to a landlord-based cause, the landlord must provide the tenant with 90 days notice and relocation expenses in the amount of one month’s rent. 5) A landlord with four or less units isn’t required to pay relocation expenses. It's my job to stay educated on laws that affect our real estate market and I'm here to help.

Why Self-Care Matters in Our Service To Others

Do you ever feel like it’s difficult to separate work from the rest of your life? You know, the months where you’re either at work, or answering emails, or working over the "weekend" (and when you’re not working...you’re thinking about work). These inevitable seasons of life are the reason I’m so blessed to truly love what I do as a realtor. Everyday, I get to interact with people in my community, to hear their stories and dreams, to build relationships and help people achieve their goals. I love having the opportunity to be a positive cheerleader for my clients. But as much as I love my work, we all need time to relax, recenter, and clear our minds. When I need some time for myself, there's nothing I love more than getting outside to play golf. The peacefulness and beauty of the green as the sun shines down, the birds chirping in the trees, the excitement when I hit a great shot or make a long putt. These moments when everything around me is quiet and still make me appreciate my job and my clients all the more. This spring as many of us get back into the swing of our work lives after winter holidays, make sure you take time to reflect and care for yourself amidst the hustle and bustle of life. After all, it's and easy and joyful task to pour into others when our own cup is overflowing!
